Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our FAQ page. Here you will find the most common questions we receive from prospective flight students. If the information below still does not answer any questions that you may have, feel free complete a contact form.
"Where can I find your pricing info?
Pricing information can be found under our "Book Online" tab on this website. However, if you encounter any confusing wordage or issues, please submit a "Contact" form and we will be happy to clarify.
"What is a Discovery Flight and do you offer them?"
Absolutely! A discovery flight is an opportunity to go up for a quick flight with one of our certified flight instructors around Minden and take the controls for a little bit. It's a great way to see if you want to become a pilot or even to give as a fun birthday gift or Christmas present.
"What ratings do you offer?"
Still Flying primarily specializes in Private Pilot flight training but also provides training for Instrument, Commercial, CFI, and CFII. Our instructors are also qualified to issue high-performance, complex, tailwheel, and high-altitude endorsements if the student can provide an applicable aircraft to train in.
"Can you fly me to my vacation destination?"
Nope, Still Flying is a flight school that primarily rents our aircraft to students for training purposes. However, we do occasionally rent to other licensed pilots in our area. Due to Federal regulations, we are not able to "charter" flights by providing an aircraft and pilot to carry passengers or cargo for hire. Thank you for your understanding.
"How does scheduling work?"
Scheduling has now been integrated into this website! Visit our "Book Online" tab for further information.
"How long does it take to earn a Private Pilot Certificate?"
This is a very common question with a very indefinite answer. To sum it all up, it depends on the student! Assuming the student spends about five hours a week studying at home and fly at least twice a week, we see course completion in about 4-6 months. Also, the more constantly you fly, the quicker you will see progress and even completion of your certificate.
"How much can I expect Private Pilot training to cost?"
This is another open-ended question that has a very broad answer. Many factors come into play with the cost of training. Some of these are student and instructor availability, financial restrictions, weather, and even the willingness of the student to study outside of their scheduled time slots. To give a legitimate estimate, we normally see a cost of between $9,000-$12,000 in flight training expenses, but we recommend planning for $15,000 to cover any examiner fees, online ground school, a headset, or any unexpected expenses.
